Eliptical Editing

Elliptical Editing

Elliptical editing is a technique that is used within film to allow a long duration of shots to be reduced, which are not required in addition, to the narrative. Furthermore, it is used in order to form a shorter and more reliable shot therefore, this will be more creative and it will engage the audience as it will be more interesting. On the other hand, ellipical editing allows the event duration to be reduced therefore, the pace of the story is better controlled in order to create an interesting narrative. An example of elliptical editing could be a shot that records a character walking a dog for around twenty minutes although, elliptical editing enables this to be cut down to reduce recording time so that viewers are not distracted and bored.

Another example of elliptical editing is used within the film, Batman Begins whichwas directed by Christopher Nolan and produced during 2005.
